We are proud to share that our President Director, Mr. Bama Djokonugroho, was speaking as panelist at the Indonesia Maritime Week 2025 during a panel session with the theme “Trade Risk and Regulatory Compliance”. The session was moderated by Georg Matthes, Chief of the Asia Pacific Bureau at Deutsche Welle, and with other panelists including Fajarini Puntodewi, Director General of Pengembangan Ekspor Nasional/National Export Development (PEN) at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade; Managing Partner of Joseph Tan Jude Benny law office from Singapore, John Sze; and American & China Region Sales Sub-division Head at PT Great Giant Foods, Ian Pangkawira.

Bama was speaking in his capacity as a practising lawyer as well as the Chairman of the Center for Maritime Law Studies at the Alumni Association of Diponegoro University’s Faculty of Law (the “PSHM”). At the session, Mr. Bama urged that the government must taking a firm stance in determining the direction of legal policy and ensuring consistency in regulations from the level of international agreements to the level of implementation provisions in ministerial regulations.

Mr. Bama further emphasized that in facing global situation in international trade, the Indonesian government must take a firm stance and determine the direction of international trade policy without being rashly influenced by global pressures and dynamics such as tariff wars. This is important in order for business actors to determine their business development strategies and have legal certainty in conducting their business activities.

According to Mr. Bama, frequently changing trade policies within a short period of time are one of the biggest trade barriers because they confuse business actors and cause inconsistencies in the implementation for trading regulations. This has been proven to disrupt trade activities and complicate the compliance process, both at the stage of business agreement and in the process of export and import.

On the same opportunity, Director General of PEN, Ms. Fajarini Puntodewi, expressed her appreciation to the valuable input and further explained that the Indonesian Government has taken various steps to mitigate trade barriers, including structural barriers such as regulations, and will continue inviting stakeholders, including Pro Alliance and PSHM, to collaborate and synergize with the Government.

In response to this, Mr. Bama explained that according to data from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), more than 80% of global trade is carried out by sea. As such, legal regulations in this sector play a vital role in ensuring smooth operation of trade.

Pro Alliance and PSHM are fully committed to continue playing an active role and serve as strategic partners for the government, businesses, and educational institutions. Our participation in various national events such as Indonesia Maritime Week 2025 is a clear evidence that Pro Alliance and PSHM IKAFH Undip will consistently collaborate with all stakeholders in fulfilling the Indonesian government’s vision of making Indonesia a global maritime hub.

Mr. Bama was the only Indonesian advocate to be appointed as panelist in the main session of the Indonesia Maritime Week 2025 held in Jakarta from May 26–28, 2025. This is a testament to our good relationship as well as important stature as a leading lawyer and major stakeholder within the maritime industry in Indonesia.

Indonesia Maritime Week 2025 is the largest and most prestigious maritime event in Indonesia. This event serves as a strategic platform to showcase and advance the national maritime industry on the global stage. It also brings together leading maritime industry leaders, influential business figures, policymakers, and innovators from across Asia. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Transportation and the Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association for organizing such a great and successful event and we are looking forward to collaborate and participate in Indonesia Maritime Week 2026 next year.
